In 1922, Ranchhoddas Bhuvan Lotwala brought out a series of pamphlets on scientific socialism under the imprint of Liberty Publications. The access to the Manifesto for Indian revolutionaries was mainly through the copies of the English editions which were smuggled into the country. The Communist Party of India was founded on 17 October 1920 at Tashkent, and Communist groups were working in different centres in India from the early 1920s. The story of how The Communist Manifesto came to be available in Indian languages is not well known.
